Not your father’s chain restaurant
February 20, 2010
Buffalo seemed to be slightly behind the times when it comes to elegant and unique chains. If you visited other cities you might have seen these restaurants. Well, they have arrived and are making some noise. These chains aren’t your fathers TGI Fridays, Applebees or Chilis. We are now talking about Bravo Cucina Italiana, Bar Louie, PF Changs, Hyde Park Steak House and The Cheesecake Factory.
Remember, these are still chains, as much as they don’t resemble the typical chain with flair buttons and chotchke decorations they are still chains. They are not locally owned but the do provide plenty of lucrative local jobs. The difference is the decor, the food quality, the menu, and the drinks. Believe me, I’m a local guy and pride myself on staying out of chains and dining locally. With that said, I can’t help but enjoy restaurant row at the Walden Galleria Mall. Each restaurant is stylish, unique and the food actually taste good, really good. And im not the only one who thinks so, if you visit this area on a Friday or Saturday night you will see a mob of people who agree with me.
It’s true that these restaurants take business away from locally owned restaurants and that is unfortunate. On the other hand competition is good in any industry. These restaurants bring a worldly flair and style that raises the bar for the local guys. Like anything else in life, if you want to compete you must be better. Your service must be better, you atmosphere must be better, your menu must be better and your food must be better. In today’s economy people don’t risk paying for a bad meal or experience. People are dining out less so when they do they want it to be good, they can’t afford a bad night out. They know they are going to get a good dinner, good service and a good atmosphere every time at these unique boutique chains.
This provides locally owned restaurants with an opportunity to improve and get their customers back. We know the food is good, it’s always good in Buffalo. But is the service always good? how about the atmosphere? wine list? prices? It better be or you will begin to lose your customers to the Bravo Cucina Italiana, Bar Louie, PF Changs, Hyde Park Steak House and The Cheesecake Factory’s of the world. And if the crowd I saw last night is any indication of success, it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere fast.

February 5, 2010 b
Buffalo, New York may be known for some of the coldest weather in America, but it is also known for some of the hottest food in America as well. That’s right; Buffalo has much more to offer than just the chicken wing (though the chicken wings are outstanding too). Buffalo features a number of restaurants that are all designed to satisfy your hunger and leave you wanting more.
If you are planning a trip to the area the one thing that certainly will not disappoint you is the almost endless supply of places to dine. From sports bars and taverns to five star quality fine dining Buffalo has it all. It doesn’t matter if you are in the mood for comfort food or you want to be wined and dines like a movie star, Buffalo has you covered. Though you may find it hard to believe Buffalo, New York has many award winning restaurants that are both conveniently located and not all that bad when it comes to prices either. While the area may not as big as some other New York cities, it is second to none when it comes to the delicious cuisine that it has to offer.
While you are in Buffalo you will not have any trouble finding places to eat, but your biggest problem will lie in where you should go to eat. This is because you will be faced with an overwhelming and vast number of choices. You could just drive around and simply pick whatever looks good to you, but you can literally search for hours on end and if you are not familiar with the area you may inadvertently choose a restaurant that is not of the best quality or just won’t be what you had in mind.

Yes Buffalo may be famous for their chicken wings , but there is so much more to experience in the city when it comes to dining out. Whatever your specific pallet is craving you will find the perfect food to satisfy it in Buffalo. The food is so good in Buffalo that the city could easily be known for much more than the chicken wing. Perhaps they just wanted to stay humble and not get all the credit, but one taste and you too will agree; though the weather gets cold, the food is hot and simply cannot be beat in Buffalo, New York.
